After an absence of three years, I’m delighted to be rejoining the judging panel for this year’s IOA. The Awards, founded in 2013 by Harry Hyman, celebrate ten years of success in 2022. Past winners include Antonio Pappano (best conductor) and Daniele Rustioni (best newcomer) in 2013, Barrie Kosky (best director), and Stuart Skelton (best male singer) in 2014, to Lise Davidsen (best female singer), Kirill Petrenko (best conductor) and Robert Carsen (best director) in 2020/21. This year’s Awards will be hosted by the Teatro Real, Madrid, winner of last year’s best opera company award, on November 28.
